The Gallery
Having carried out an exhaustive audit of Barcelona’s art market Guntrian Gallery has identified a gap in the city’s art offering. Specialising in 20th Century editioned prints and other art objects Guntrian Gallery aims to provide a space for its appreciation and discovery, catering both to locals and visitors alike.
The location is as emblematic and vibrant as the art within, surrounded as it is by some of Barcelona’s most celebrated restaurants, cafés and cocktail bars. A busy street corner at the intersection of Av. Diagonal, Muntaner and Passatge de Lluis Pellicer within the Eixample neighbourhood on C/ Muntaner 217, tienda 1. Guntrian Gallery is destined to become a vital part of the surrounding city fabric.
The spacious gallery reveals itself through the glass entrance doors below the historic building’s shallow stone entrance arch. Inside the art is displayed within a brightly illuminated high-ceiling space, under the exposed bóveda catalana structure, that inspired the gallery logo.
The editioned prints, sculptures and art objects are combined with vintage items of furniture and light fittings. A series of cantilevered glass boxes and display cabinets currently contain works by glass artist, Mel Munsen. While a bronze by renowned sculptress Dr. Gindi greets visitors at the entrance. The sense of light and air throughout creates the ideal environment for looking at beautiful things.
The inaugural show includes a series of prints by an eclectic collection of artist commissioned to celebrate the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
